EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE PROGRAM

FAST CATs Program

FASTCATS

An academic detailing program providing dental students the opportunity to serve as the academic detailers was established at The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in 2008.  After a 2 1/2 day workshop, students visit general dentists and present Critically Appraised Topics (CATs) documents in a face-to-face intervention.  Sixty-two students have visited over 250 general dentists during summer vacation breaks. Students receive selective credit and the dentist receive 1 hour of CE credit. Students reported that their participation in the project reinforced their commitment to evidence-based practice as taught in their course work.  The students reported positively on the project and were well received by the dentists.
